Our Philosophy

  • Understanding Why

When you know why you think, feel, and act the way you do, change feels possible. This understanding gives people the insight to make choices that align with their values instead of staying stuck in old habits.

  • Accessible & Impactful

We believe psychology should be accessible and impactful - not reserved for a few. It’s been overlooked in healthcare for too long, and our goal is to make practical, evidence-based tools available to everyone who needs them.

  • No Quick Fixes

The thoughts, habits, and emotions that shape us don’t change overnight. They’ve often developed over years - sometimes decades - and take time to rebuild. We don’t believe in quick fixes; our courses guide you through the key skills you’ll need for lasting change - through both the ups and the downs.

About The Founder

I’m Dr. Joe O’Briena Chartered Health Psychologist.

After years of working with people who find it hard to change their eating habits, I saw the same pattern: everyone knew what to do, but struggled to turn that knowledge into action. These struggles often came from psychological reasons like emotional, cognitions, and old thinking patterns.

Unfortunately, these things are rarely considered in health interventions, or health professionals state they do these things but have never been trained to do so.

That’s why I started Head First Health - to bring psychology skills into standard healthcare practice, making behaviour change feel possible by giving people the skills they need to move from intention to action.

FAQ

  • Who is this for?

Head First Health is for anyone who wants to better understand their mind, behaviour, and relationship with food. It’s for people using GLP-1 medications who want to build the psychological and emotional skills to match their physical progress, and for those who find themselves caught in old patterns — perfectionism, all-or-nothing thinking, or constant self-criticism — even when they’re trying to change. It’s also for anyone who wants to stop focusing so much on their weight/appearance and move to a more balanced place. We also have specific programmes are for health professionals — dietitians, coaches, nutritionists, and others — who want to bring psychological skills into their practice safely and effectively.
